Loch Lomond death heartbreak as devastated family pay tribute to 'nicest boy' Connor after drowning tragedy

Heartbreaking tributes have been paid to 'the nicest boy' after his tragic death at Loch Lomond last night.

Connor Markward, 16, drowned after getting into difficulty in the water around 7pm last night.

We told how a major rescue was launched with coastguard, police racing to at Balloch Castle Country Park.

Sadly the youngster's life could not be saved.

Devastated brother Leo announced the death on social media.

He said: "Yesterday my whole world came crashing down.

"My baby bro drowned at Balloch in the most horrible of ways.

"I’ll love you forever my son, sleep tight. Till we meet again."

Tributes have continued to flow in for the popular 16-year-old who attended Lochend Community High School in the Easterhouse area of Glasgow.

One pal wrote: "So sad thoughts and prayers for his family at this sad time . R.I.P CONNOR."

Another added: "Fly High Connor"

A third wrote: "Can’t belive I’m writing this rip Connor Markward canny get ma head around that ur gone till we meet again."

And another pal wrote: "Canny believe am writing this but rip Connor Markward New you where the nicest boy I'll ever meet. fly high brother until wee meet again love you"

Another pal added: "Rip Connor Markward one of the soundest boys a know, fly high ma man."

Police Scotland confirmed the tragic death of a teenager.

In a statement they said: "We were called around 5.55pm on Friday, 23 July, 2021 following a report of a concern for a person in the water at Balloch Country Park.

"Emergency services attended and male youth who was recovered from the water was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Formal identification has still to take place but the family of a 16-year-old man have been informed.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
