Locations of East Ayrshire community clean-up events are revealed

A September spruce-up is on the cards with community groups preparing for a big clean in East Ayrshire this month.

The outdoor services and Vibrant Communities teams are joining forces with local groups in a bid to make a difference.

Outdoor services will be leading five community clean-ups, with support from local community councils, and the first event took place yesterday at Stewarton's Cunningham Watt Park.

The team will work with any volunteers within the community for a full day, providing bags and litter pickers. They will also have large and small sweepers supporting their efforts and responding to any areas of concern.

The community clean-ups, which will be subject to physical distancing measures, will start at 10.30am on the following days and locations:

●Wednesday, September 9 – Carnshalloch Avenue shops, Patna;

●Wednesday, September 16 – Portland Park, Galston;

●Wednesday, September 23 – Loreny Park, Shortlees;

●Wednesday, September 30 – Football pitch, Co-Operative Avenue, Catrine.

Councillor Sally Cogley, chair of the Clean, Green and Vibrant Working Group, said: “These organised events are a great way of bringing everyone together, to realise that we are all in this together and that only by working together we can tackle environmental crime.

“If you haven’t taken part in a community clean-up, why not join your local group this September?

“I can assure you that you will enjoy the company and be very proud of your hard work and your community at the end of the day.”

In addition to the community clean-ups, Cumnock and Kilmarnock town centres will be receiving a deep clean during the week of Monday, September 14.

Outdoor services will also be supporting clean-ups within the area’s main parks including Annanhill Park, Kay Park, Dean Park, Howard Park, Bellfield estate, Woodroad Park and Cunningham Watt Park.
