Location, Location, Location's Kirstie Allsopp's net-worth and aristocratic links

Kirstie Allsopp has garnered a large amount of hate after claiming that if young people gave up "luxuries" like gym memberships and Netflix subscriptions, then they would be able to afford the average house deposit of £59,000 to jump onto the property ladder.

The Location, Location, Location host also boasted that she bought her first home at the age of 21, with a hefty pay-out from her family, reports the Mirror.

The average house price at the time of this purchase was £51,000, which was around five times the size of her salary then.

Today, the average price of a home is £268,000, around nine times the average salary, while rising living costs are pushing many families into unseen poverty.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, Kirstie said: "When I bought my first property, going abroad, [and] the easyJet, coffee, gym, Netflix lifestyle didn’t exist.

"I used to walk to work with a sandwich. And on payday I'd go for a pizza, and to a movie, and buy a lipstick. Interest rates were 15 per cent, I was earning £11,500 a year."

She continued: "I do think you have to ask yourself what your degree is giving you.

"Could you get a job at 18, stay at home with [your] parents for three years, and save every single penny, enough for a deposit?"

She said she was "enraged" by those who claim they can't afford to buy a house.

Kirstie has also previously stated that remote workers should be heading back to the office in order to "prove their worth", and also to avoid getting sacked.

She also said that first time buyers should all move up north where properties are cheaper.

The publication pointed out that as the average house deposit for a first-time buyer is £59,000, you would need to forgo Starbucks coffees, Netflix, the gym and easyJet flights for 37 years.

Her comments sparked a torrent of backlash on Twitter, as people delved into her family history to get to the root of her thoughts.

One Twitter user said: "Kirstie Allsopp, daughter of an Eton-educated Baron, tells young people struggling to buy a home to just look in cheaper areas and give up the gym and Netflix."

This claim is infact correct, as Kirstie Allsopp's father Charles Allsopp is the 6th Baron Hindlip, and Kirstie has an average net worth of around £15 million at the moment.
