Locals warned following mechanical pump breakdown at Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Plant

Locals have been warned following a mechanical breakdown of pumps at the Ringsend Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Irish Water has confirmed the incident which will lead to stormwater overflows over the coming days.

Repairs are currently underway and the EPA, Dublin City Council, and the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council have been notified.

Irish Water spokeswoman, Sharon Waters, said: “Irish water would like to advise that due to a mechanical breakdown of pumps at Ringsend wastewater treatment plant there is an increased risk of stormwater overflows occurring over the coming days while repairs are underway.

“Crews are on site working to carry out essential repairs to the pumps as quickly as possible in order to allow the plant to return to its full treatment capacity. Irish Water have notified the Environmental Protection Agency, Dublin City Council and Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council of this incident.”
