Locals 'traumatised' after shots fired at house with young child inside in Belfast

Detectives are appealing for information after shots were fired at a house in Belfast last night.

The PSNI say it was reported that a number of shots were fired through the living room window of the house in Ardoyne shortly after 10pm.

Deputy Lord Mayor of Belfast Paul McCusker was at the scene on Monday night, Belfast Live reports.

He said: "There was a number of shots fired into a home with a young child and three adults in the property at the time.

"Those thugs who done this had no regard for anyone as there was children playing in the street and were left frightened and distressed after witnessing this reckless incident.

"Let's be clear, those behind this have no support from anyone and endangered lots of lives tonight including young children and left lots of people traumatised.

"Guns need to be removed from our streets.

"If anyone has any information, please share it with police."

A PSNI spokesperson said: "There were no reports of any injuries and enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident.

"Detectives would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area at the time of the incident, to contact them in Musgrave on 101 quoting reference number 2337 20/07/20.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime."

Sinn Féin Councillor Ryan Murphy said it was "disturbing" to hear of the shooting incident.

"Thankfully no one has been injured in this cowardly attack but we could have been looking at a real tragedy here.

"I’ve been speaking with residents in the street and surrounding area who are shocked and disgusted by this shooting.

"I condemn those responsible unreservedly and urge anyone with information on this shooting to bring it forward to the police."
