The victim of a horror stabbing in an apartment in Dublin city centre has been named locally.
Isaac Horgan was found with serious slash wounds at Markievicz House just off Townsend Street in the capital on Monday morning.
He was rushed to St James' Hospital where he was sadly pronounced dead later that day, Dublin Live reports.
Sources said that Mr Horgan's primary stab wound was in his upper leg, and that his femoral artery may have been severed.
Residents of Markievicz House told of how they were "shocked" at hearing the news this morning.
One said that it was especially harrowing as kids living locally, off on their Easter holidays from school, would have been playing close to the crime scene at the time.
Mr Horgan, 50s, lived alone in the apartment and was said to not be local to the area, having moved into his flat less than five years ago, and was known to Gardai.
The scene remains sealed off this evening at the block as Gardai and forensic experts carry out investigations.
A Garda statement read: "Gardaí are investigating all the circumstances of the death of a man in his 50s, following an incident at Markievicz House.
"Gardaí responded to reports of an incident at Markievicz House, Dublin 2 at approximately 11am this morning Monday 29th March 2021.
"A male in his 50s was brought to St James Hospital and was later pronounced dead.
"A post mortem is due to take place, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.
"The scene continues to be preserved and examinations are ongoing by the Garda Technical Bureau and Divisional Scenes of Crime personnel."
