Locals slam 'lazy' pet owners for creating a 'poo tree' from discarded dog mess bags

'Lazy' pet owners have been slammed by residents after creating a 'poo tree' from discarded dog mess bags. Bushes and branches on a popular dog walking route in Newport have become so strewn with black sacks containing droppings that locals have even given the spot a special name.

"We call it the 's*** tree' - lovely isn't it?" said one disgruntled passerby, who added that the unsightly landmark next to Rogerstone Primary School gets worse each time she visits. "That people can be so lazy rather than take their dog's muck home and bin it is really depressing.

"Yes, we could probably do with more bins along this stretch in which to put the bags, but even then I think some would rather fling it in the bushes." She added, "My son has two big dogs and lives in Arizona in the US.

"Over there they have dog poo bins everywhere. Honestly, I just can't understand the mentality of those who go out into nature and then do something like his.

"And it takes years for these bags to break down. Meanwhile, everyone has to look at this eyesore - and every time I walk by here it just seems like it's worse than before."

The problem is also a hot topic on the Rogerstone Community Facebook page. "Lack of bins or not - I’m a dog walker and would never do this. Take it home and dispose of it," posted one member.

"The people who do this lack all responsibility and respect for the area," said another, while third added that the culprits also "lacked brains."

"So people bother to bag up the poo but then just throw it in a tree?" asked someone else. "I take my dog's poo home and even keep air freshener in the boot of the car so we don’t get 'gassed' on the drive back.

"It's not rocket science." Newport City Council has been contacted for comment.
