Locals set for bad smell as works begin on North Dublin sewage plant

North Dublin residents may be experiencing "odour issues" today as works begin on a sewage plant.

Urgent repair and maintenance works at Swords Wastewater treatment plant is getting underway this morning with Fingal County Council warning locals may experience a dodgy smell while it's ongoing.

It's expected the works will last around two days, although bad weather could see it take longer.

The council say they're deploying "odour abatement methods" in a bid to quell the smell - and that they expect the plant to operate at full productivity once they're complete.

They said: "Due to upcoming essential minor operational maintenance requirements, and the knock on effect on the treatment process at Swords Waste Water Treatment Plant, intermittent odour issues may arise.

"Works will be undertaken over a 2 day period commencing Tuesday 09th July 2019 (weather permitting), and it is envisaged that this will return the plant to optimum levels of operation.

"These works are essential to maintain an effective treatment process within the plant.  Due to the nature of these works, there may be some intermittent odour issues in the vicinity of the plant for the duration of the works.

"Irish Water and Fingal County Council are currently deploying additional odour abatement methods to mitigate the odour as far as possible."

The finished by taking the public for their patience.
