Locals pay tribute to popular Edinburgh shopkeeper retiring after 35 years

A popular Edinburgh shopkeeper has announced he is retiring after serving the community for 35 years.

The owner of S & D Wright Newsagents in Gilmerton, Stevie Wright, wrote an emotional letter to locals, letting them know that he would be handing over the reins.

Hundreds of Edinburgh residents wished bowling- mad Stevie all the best in his future endeavours, branding him a "true gentleman."

Stevie, 66, told Edinburgh Live: "I'll miss my customers but there comes a time where you need to retire, I just stay across the road from the shop, so most of the locals have been more like friends.

"I'll be retiring at the end of the month and the gentleman next door named Ram will be taking over. I'm looking forward to doing some bowling."
