Locals expressed outrage after a fund intended to help fix a west Dublin community centre roof was stolen over the weekend.
A fundraising bottle had been left in the reception area of Huntstown Community Centre.
But on Saturday afternoon the bottle was taken by a heartless thief.
Centre manager Chris Sullivan shared the sad news on Facebook this morning.
He said: "Feeling sad and disappointed that on Saturday afternoon our fundraising bottle was taken from the reception area.
"As you know we have been raising funds to fix the roof for the last year and this was part of it."
Residents were quick to offer words of support to centre staff.
One woman said: "That is disgraceful."
Another wrote: "Omg that's terrible Chris who would sink so low?"
While another added: "How can whoever did that look themselves in the mirror?"
Fortunately, a kind community garda has stepped in to help organise a new fundraiser.
Chris wrote this afternoon: "Thank you for all the kind words you guys have sent in re theft of the bottle.
"As you are aware we are bag packing in Dunnes Stores all day Friday if you have 2 hours to spare please PM me.

"This has been organised by the Community Garda who is coming in on his day off to help us out.
"All monies raised will go into the Roof fund."
