Locals in Dublin's Docklands fear for their lives as they are terrorised by gangs of youths during lockdown

Locals have been left fearing for their lives as their apartment block has been terrorised by gangs of youths during lockdown.

Residents said that mobs have been "drinking, taking drugs, and dealing drugs" in full view of their homes.

A strip of green that runs alongside the Royal Canal across from the apartments has seen neighbourhood hooligans gathering in large groups to drink and fight, Dublin Live reports.

A note posted to inhabitants, seen by Dublin Live, says that, despite the increase in security patrols, the building managers, Indigo Real Estate Management, will be taking a massive case of videos and eyewitness accounts to gardai to try and force a crime crackdown.

And one occupant has told Dublin Live about attacks on residents and security guards from the careless kids that pose a real "danger to us residents entering and exiting the apartments".

"The gangs of teenagers have been gathering since lockdown," resident John Goodwin said.

"[They're] getting worse and worse. They are gathering directly outside the apartments at the canal side.

"The residents of Spencer Dock are continuously phoning the guards.

"A few weeks ago our private security guard was smacked to the ground by some of the lads, and a resident was walking back with his shopping and was attacked, smacked in the face quite bad, both attacks on the private residents walkway.

"These gangs of under age youths are drinking and taking drugs and dealing drugs in from of us.

"They throw all their rubbish on the grass and smash bottles and throw crap in the canal. They are a disgrace and also a danger to us residents entering and exiting the apartments.

"The situation is now out of control. Someone is going to get seriously hurt if not killed."

A spokesperson for Dublin City Council said: "Dublin City Council is aware of some ongoing issues of anti-social behaviour in the vicinity of Spencer Dock.

"We note the management company are engaging with An Garda Síochána which is the correct course of action.

"Dublin City council are also liaising with An Garda Síochána and are willing to assist them in any way we can."
