Locals fear for their safety after desperate McDonald's customers cause chaos

Worried Fife residents have asked their MP for help after numerous reports of 'near misses' on pedestrian crossings near a McDonald's due to huge traffic queues for the fast food restaurant.

Vehicles queuing for McDonald's at Fife Central Retail Park are reportedly backing up and stopping the flow of traffic on the road, meaning that cars can regularly be seen travelling the wrong way on the opposite side of the road to pass stationary vehicles in the queue.

Local MSP David Torrance called the dangerous road use as "a practice which is neither legal nor safe" and said that pedestrians were also at risk: "I've had reports from many people who have feared for their safety as they attempt to use the zebra crossing in this area with several re-counting near misses with cars travelling at excessive speeds on the opposite side of the road as they try to beat oncoming traffic."

The SNP politician, who represents Kirkcaldy, took to Facebook to share how he visited the retail park himself and witnessed numerous cars, and vans, participating in the 'extremely dangerous' behaviour.

He has reached out to both McDonald's and Fife Central Retail Park to carry out an assessment of the current road layout and to consider what action can be taken to improve safety.

He said: "I strongly believe it to be only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured."
