Locals confused as stream of water has been flowing down busy road in Dublin suburb '24/7 for over three weeks'

Locals in the area of Kilmainham have expressed their confusion at a stream of water that has been flowing '24-7' through one of it's busiest streets.

The flow of water has reportedly been flowing for nearly three weeks at the junction of Emmet Road and the South Circular Road, travelling down the street into a nearby storm drain.

It is unclear how the stream started, but on the day that the Commission for Regulation of Utilities approved Irish Water's proposals to allow for charges to be applied for excess usage, locals have called the lack of clarity on the issue 'hypocritical'.

One local told Dublin Live: "It's been leaking for some time, but it's getting substantial now.

"Irish water are talking about preservation and conservation and all these things, but this is a stream of water constantly pouring out on to the footpath and the road for nearly 200 yards.

"It's hypocritical as there is so much water coming out and yet they tell us we need to be careful in how we manage our water."

According to the Irish Water website, there are 'Mains Rehabilitation Works' taking place in nearby Luby Road, but it is unclear if the leakage is linked to the works.

Irish water have been contacted for a comment.
