Congratulations – of a sort – to Leeds local TV station Made in Leeds which managed the rare and possibly unique distinction of breaching media regulator Ofcom’s broadcasting rules with its very first show.
The launch show called, er, The Launch Show, featured a vox pop with people out on the town in Leeds in a segment promisingly titled “How to pull a lady”. It’s at this point that readers of a sensitive disposition should probably look away now.
“It’s a good cop, bad cop,” explained one chap, before his friend said something similar in rather more colourful language. “Exactly,” he said. “He’s the cunt and I’m nice. It works.”
The pre-watershed use of offensive language on 6 November last year was compounded by a repeat of the show at 8am the following morning.
Made in TV admitted it was “wholly unacceptable” and said they took the issue “incredibly seriously” with the member of staff responsible “removed from their duties”.
A spokesman for Ofcom said: “After a thorough investigation, Ofcom found Made in Leeds breached broadcasting rules for airing the most offensive language before the watershed during its launch show.
“The channel separately breached our rules during a trailer for Clubaholic.tv. The trailer exceeded the limits for flashing images which serve to protect those affected by photosensitive epilepsy.”
