A Scotmid Co-operative shop in West Lothian has been trashed after being targeted in a “ram raid” robbery attempt in the early hours of Monday morning.
Police rushed to the scene on Drumshoreland Road in Pumpherston shortly before 1.30am.
Officers investigating the incident say a red Land Rover was used to drive into the shop three times before driving away after the alarms went off.
It has led to extensive damage to the front of the shop and officers area are appealing for witnesses.
Pumpherston Community Council took to social media to advise people living in the village not to waste their time heading out to the shop on Monday.
They posted: “Please be aware that the Scotmid Co-operative is closed. We will update when further information becomes available but in the interim, please advise neighbours – particularly the elderly – to avoid a wasted journey.”
The store has now re-opened.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police in Livingston received a report of a ram-raid at the Scotmid on Drumshoreland Road, Pumpherston, around 1.20am on Monday, October 14.
“A red Land Rover was used to drive into the front of the premises at speed three times before driving away when alarms were activated.
“The vehicle used in the incident has now been recovered by officers and has been sent for forensic analysis. Enquiries are ongoing.”
