Local product Connor Wedington ready to compete to make Seahawks roster

Local Sumner product Connor Wedington is realizing his NFL dream after signing with the Seattle Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford.

“This is the hometown team, the Seahawks, I’ve been a fan since I was about three years old, and actually I remember coming to the training camp and I was about eight years old as well,” Wedington told reporters after Saturday’s rookie camp practice. “So coming back here playing for this team, it’s amazing. I can’t wait to continue to grow with this team and learn under the players ahead of me.”

Wedington acknowledges he has a tough road ahead to make the 53-man roster behind the likes of Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf and fellow rookie D’Wayne Eskridge, who was selected in the second round of this year’s NFL draft.

While other teams might have offered Wedington more money in terms of a signing bonus, the Pacific Northwest is home.

“At the end of the day, everything happens for a reason,” he explained. “I’m here, I’ve got a chip on my shoulder and I’m ready to compete.”
