Local Gracemount community throw a hilarious dance along to raise spirits during lockdown

A local community came together for a boogie in Gracemount this week, in a bid to bring people together as well as letting loose to some classic party tunes.

Suzanne Baxter, organised the 'dance along' event on Friday afternoon, which saw neighbours from all over the 21st Century Homes estate head out onto their balconies or into their gardens. After seeing a post on Facebook of a local community in England doing something similar, Suzanne began to organise a dance along of her own for their street to enjoy.

After being organised online, a speaker was set up to play a few well known party songs for residents to get moving and sing along to at a safe distance from the other residents in the street.

Suzanne told Edinburgh Live how impressed she was with how the dance along had turned out, saying:

"It was really great, I ended up getting more people out than I thought, there were people standing out on their balconies and in their gardens, there were probably about 25-30 people there.

"It was also to end how fed up I was, I thought why not, try and get the kids out and burn some energy at the same time, then it was set up in a few days.

"One neighbour had a bigger speaker so I connected my phone and played some songs through that, they were mostly classic songs that everyone would know and dance to like the YMCA and the macarena.

"It was really good to see people out and laughing, it was one neighbour's birthday so we played happy birthday for them too.

Suzanne also described how the event had given a positive boost to the street to see and interact with their neighbours after four long weeks in lockdown:

"Initially I was just going to play about four songs but people kept shouting 'one more tune' and we were out there for over half an hour.

"It was a good way of bringing the community together through doing this, just as a reminder that everyone is in the same boat. I felt really energised from it and I think others did too, it was also nice to see the kids having fun."
