Local fury after 'mystery fire' engulfs local Meath business on Halloween night

Gardai are investigating after a local business in Co Meath was extensively damaged in a fire on Saturday night.

Multiple units of the fire brigade were called to the raging inferno at the Co-Op Creamery in Oldcastle after 7pm.

The roof of the building was burned to pieces while inside the premises has been hugely damaged.

Meath West TD Johnny Guirke shared footage of the blaze and hopes Gardai can find the culprit.

The Sinn Fein TD said: "It's sad to see a local business in flames on Halloween night, many people could lose their jobs and if this was started maliciously which puts our local firemen at risk, I would hope that the Gardai can get to the bottom of this fire."

Gardai confirmed they are investigating the fire but the cause of the blaze is unknown at the moment.

A garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí from Kells and local fire services attended at the scene of a fire at a premises at Railway Yard, Oldcastle, Co Meath on shortly before 8pm on Saturday.

"There was no reports of anyone inured. Extensive damage was caused to the building before it was brought under control by Fire Service personnel.  It’s unclear how the fire started, enquires are ongoing."
