Local elections: when will we get the results in Bristol?

People across the Bristol region have been to the polls to vote in up to four local elections.

Not only have voters chosen who will run the city for the next three years in Bristol's third ever election for city mayor, but all 70 seats on Bristol City Council are also up for grabs with all 34 wards across the city contested.

The Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) and the Combined Authority Mayor for the West of England (WECA) elections also took place on the same day - meaning people voted in four elections on May 6.

It will now take three days for the votes to be counted and the results to be declared.

The election counts will also be run slightly differently this year in order to be covid-safe. Here is when we are expecting the results for each election to come in:

- Avon and Somerset Police and Crime Commissioner: The main count for the PCC election is taking place at the University of Bath and will be on Friday (May 7). Results are expected between 3pm and 5pm.

- West of England metro mayor: The declaration for the WECA election is taking place at the SS Great Britain on Saturday (May 8). First round result is expected around noon and, if a second round is required, it will be mid-afternoon.

- Bristol Mayor: The Bristol Mayoral count and declaration is being held at City Academy in Redfield on the Saturday (May 8) afternoon. Results are being anticipated for around midnight but could be as late as 2am depending on how things go during the day.

- Bristol City Council election: The ballots are being counted all day from 9am on Sunday across three different venues - Henbury Leisure Centre, Oasis Academy and City Academy. Results will be declared throughout the day, with the final result aiming to be declared before 5pm.

Local and mayoral elections were due to take place last May, but they were postponed at the beginning of the covid crisis last March because of the threat posed by the virus.
