Local election results 2021: Check who won where you live in England

Local elections have taken place across England on May 6, as voters chose local councillors, mayors and police and crime commissioners, as new Parliaments are being elected in Wales and Scotland.

A by-election will also take place in Hartlepool to select a new Member of Parliament.

The increased number of votes taking place this week is down to the coronavirus pandemic, which postponed the majority of votes scheduled to take place in May 2020.

You can check the results for each of the council elections across England in our widget below. It will be updated as results are announced on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Simply type in the council you want the results for.

This year's large number of elections means there will be a bigger than usual number of results to keep a watch for once polling stations close at 10pm on Thursday.

Counts will be taking place at different times in different places and additional safety measures due to the pandemic, means it will be slower than usual.

It is up to returning officers in each voting area to determine the arrangements for counting votes and announcing results.

While some will have chosen to count votes overnight, others will have chosen to delay the count due to social distancing arrangements, staff numbers and additional hygiene practices.

A large number of postal votes are also expected to be cast this year.
