Local dog rushed to vets after ingesting rat poison, as owner warns to avoid area

A local dog owner has warned others to be careful after his dog ingested rat poison.

Earlier this week, Colin Miller took to social media after having fears the situation could have ended much worse.

On Sunday, Colin and his wife had been walking their dog next to Musselburgh Racecourse in East Lothian.

However, during the stroll, the couple noticed their dog eating a strange blue substance on the ground.

After quickly rushing to the vet, they were told the substance was definitely rat poison, with the dog then given an injection to induce vomiting.

In a warning to others, Colin said that they will be "avoiding the lagoons next to Musselburgh Racecourse for the foreseeable future."

He added: "Lucky we noticed otherwise we would have had a very sick dog in the next day or two."

A similar incident occurred in Edinburgh last week, after another dog was rushed to the vets to have their stomach pumped.

While with their dog in Meadowfield Park, local dog trainer András Marosi saw his dog, Alba, pick up a tennis ball, only to ingest an "adhesive powder" hidden inside.

Andras, who lives in Leith, had to rush Alba to the vet, initially fearing she had been deliberately poisoned as she was covered in a sticky white paste.

But the vet explained to the dog trainer, who runs ND-GO pet services, that Alba was actually made sick by the adhesive powder on some tennis balls which reacts with water.
