Local cricket: Campbell's super century leads the way as Maghull defeat Alder

Joe Campbell hit his maiden first XI century - an unbeaten 101 - as Maghull put Alder to the sword in Division Two of the Love Lane Liverpool Competition.

Campbell’s knock helped his side to 257/5; in reply, the West Derby side slumped to 15/4 and only partially recovered thanks to Greg Coogan’s 62, eventually falling 104 runs short.

For Division Two’s other centurion, it was very much not his first - former Zimbabwe captain Tatenda Taibu finished unbeaten on exactly 100 from just 66 balls as Hightown St Mary’s beat Parkfield Liscard by eight wickets. Joshua Courtney’s 64 had earlier lifted the Wirral side to 140 after Matt Laybourne took 6/42.

Craig Black took 6/36 as Southport Trinity won at Prestatyn; the hosts slipped from 46/0 to 107 all out, and Trinity reached their target with six wickets to spare.

Spring View’s Suleman Khan was the matchwinner against Wavertree, taking 6/29 to restrict the visitors to 83 to earn a 40-run victory. Earlier, Matt Nation had taken 5/33 to keep the hosts’ total down.

Caldy breezed to a nine-wicket win over Norley Hall after Daniel Hamm demolished the tail with 5/23 to dismiss the hosts for 102.
