Lobo: New Glasgow south side Mediterranean restaurant replacing Gnom opens later this month

Work is well underway to bring a brand new restaurant to the south side of Glasgow.

Mediterranean-themed restaurant Lobo is hoping to open towards the end of October at the former home of popular brunch spot Gnom, on Pollokshaws Road.

Three local south side business partners with an impressive collective pedigree in the hospitality industry are behind the new venture, with two of them having worked in renowned Nithsdale Road bistro Ollie's while the head chef makes his way from working within the highly revered kitchen at Cafe Strange Brew.

The food being served up will have Spanish, Italian and French influences and will be complemented by an impressive wine list.

We caught up with one of the trio behind Lobo, Danny, to find out what we can expect from this exciting new food spot.

He told Glasgow Live: "We've taken Gnom over. It's completely under new management and a completely new place.

"It's a collaborative effort between me and two business partners, Ewan and James. We all come from a hospitality background. We're all south side-based and up until recently were all working in hospitality in the south side.

"Myself and one of my business partners comes from Ollie's on Nithsdale Road. Our head chef is currently a senior chef at Cafe Strange Brew. So between us all we've got about 25 years' experience."

"We are changing it from a brunch place into a restaurant and bar - more on the restaurant side but one that serves alcohol.

"Mediterranean small plates is the theme. I spent quite a lot of time living in Spain. If you say 'Spanish food' people automatically think tapas, but it's food with Spanish influence, Italian influence and there's a bit of French in there as well. Our chef James is drawing on different influences, not necessarily just Spanish.

"We're going to have an interesting wine list that suits the style of the menu too."

With the hope the new restaurant will open up before the end of the month, the Lobo team have already been teasing photos of the food southsiders can expect to enjoy in the heart of Strathbungo this autumn, with more sneak peeks to arrive in the coming days.

Danny added: "We're going to drip-feed the menu out there over the next few weeks and around a week before we open we'll release the full menu and people can keep an eye on our Instagram page in the meantime."

Lobo is expected to be a very welcome addition to the south side food scene and we can't wait to visit!
