Loan trio's future in doubt at Notts County as Chesterfield boss believes Magpies won't renew contracts

Chesterfield's caretaker manager John Pemberton believes Notts County will not renew the contracts of defender Matt Tootle, goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons and striker Nathan Tyson.

All three are currently on loan at the Spireites until the end of the season having failed to break into the first team under boss Neal Ardley.

Fitzsimons, Tootle and Tyson are all out of contract when the season ends although it is currently on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But discussing their long term futures, Pemberton says he is monitoring their situation and has not ruled out a permanent move for them if they leave Meadow Lane.

“I have spoken to the lads on loan just to tell them the situation that we are in," Pemberton told the Derbyshire Times.

"With regards to Tootle, Tyson and Fitzsimons their contracts are up anyway with their club.

"I don't think they (Notts County) are going to renew them so they are going to end up free agents anyway so we are just monitoring that and seeing what that situation is.”

Tootle joined Chesterfield last November but has not kicked a ball since December after injuring his ankle during the Spireites' 2-1 defeat at home to Yeovil.

He made two appearances for Notts at the start of this season, but was a substitute on both occasions.

Tyson moved to Chesterfield in January having largely been confined to a place on the bench for most of the season at Meadow Lane.

He did score one goal for Notts which came in a 5-1 win over Chorley and has scored a hat-trick for Chesterfield which came in a 4-0 win over Ebbsfleet.

Goalkeeper Fitzsimons has made one appearance for Pemberton's side so far which came in a 2-1 win away at Chorley.

Ironically his last game for Notts came against the Spireites when he kept a clean sheet in a convincing 3-0 victory that was screened live by BT Sport.
