Loads of dolphins put on a spectacular show in a Welsh bay

A Large pod of friendly dolphins were spotted giving a spectacular show off Carmarthen Bay.

The rare occurrence was captured by local skipper, Joseph Thomas, whilst he conducted a 'sweep' of Carmarthen Bay to ensure it was clear of other vessels.

Joseph said he was lucky to get up close with the amazing creatures frolicking in sea.

Joseph Thomas, skipper of the Pendine Range Safety boat, said it was one of the largest pods of dolphins he'd seen.

He said: "On route, we saw some large splashes in the distance and altered course to investigate, which is when we came upon the unusually large pod of dolphins.

"I am lucky to see a lot of porpoises, and on occasion smaller pods of dolphins especially during spells of calm weather, but this has to be one of the largest I've seen. We slowed down and were soon surrounded by the pod which including many juveniles.

Joseph said the pod started following the boat and put on a good show. He added: "They stayed around the boat for half an hour or so before making their way south east to deeper water."
