Loads of dinosaurs have appeared around Llanelli

If you've paid a trip to Llanelli town centre today, you'll have noticed something very different - and prehistoric.

Dinosaurs have been sighted in hotspot areas including St Elli Shopping Centre and the entrance to Llanelli Market, giving many reason to double take as they went about their business this morning.

But fear not, they are there as part of a schedule of summer fun organised by the town's business improvement district Ymlaen Llanelli, which is looking to encourage people back into the area to support businesses.

Called the 'Summer Dinosaur Trail', eight dinosaurs will be lurking in the town centre during the school summer holidays, and families are encouraged to pick up a trail map and set off in search of the dinosaurs’ names.

Once all eight have been found, you can take your completed map to Jenkins Bakery in Stepney Precinct for a free dino-themed treat, and you will be entered into a draw for the chance to win a bike.

The trail officially begins on Monday, July 19, and ends on Wednesday, September 1 , with a winner to be drawn and contacted shortly after the closing date.

Similar schemes have proven to be a success in other areas, including in Bristol, which has had a Wallace and Gromit sculpture trail for a number of years.

Find out about the events in your area:

Chairwoman of Ymlaen Llanelli, Lesley Richards, said: "We can’t wait to get the trail started. As restrictions ease, we want to help people reconnect with their town centre and bring that spark back.

"Ymlaen Llanelli BID is known for our wacky and wonderful events programme, so while we can’t get back to events just yet, this really fits the bill. Where else would you find a T-rex browsing the shops?”

Ymlaen Llanelli has also been working on the Love Llanelli loyalty card scheme, which will continue until August 1. It sees customers collect a sticker when they spend over £10 at participating businesses, and when five stickers have been collected, the completed card can be exchanged at Llanelli Library for a £20 gift voucher to spend at participating businesses.

Llanelli's monthly food market is also set to return to the town centre from Saturday, July 17.
