A man has been charged after allegedly producing a loaded pistol from his pants minutes after he returned a positive breath test in the NSW Southern Tablelands.
NSW Police said the man was breath tested shortly after midnight on January 1 in Marulan.
Officers approached a silver Toyota Prado 4WD with a flat tyre and spoke with the 31-year-old driver before breath testing him.
The South Hurstville man allegedly returned a positive result and was arrested.
"As he was being walked by police to the caged police truck, it's alleged he produced a semi-automatic pistol from his pants and threw it on the ground," police said.
The pistol was seized and the man was taken to Goulburn Police Station.
He was charged with four offences - not keep firearm safely, handle/use firearm under the influence of alcohol/drug, possess unregistered unauthorised pistol in public place and refuse or fail to submit to a breath analysis.
The man was refused bail and appeared at Wollongong Bail Court on New Year's Day where he was formally refused bail to appear before Goulburn Local Court on January 13.
