Loaded homemade gun seized by NSW police

Police say they located a loaded home-made firearm at Nowra. (AAP)

A loaded homemade handgun has been seized by police and two people arrested after officers searched a car south of Sydney.

Police stopped a Ford Falcon sedan on Jervis Street at Nowra just after 8pm on Friday before speaking with the driver, a 30-year-old man, and a female passenger, 46.

During the search of the sedan, officers found a homemade firearm. An examination of the firearm revealed it was loaded with a .22 calibre round.

The couple was charged with possessing a loaded firearm in a public place and possessing an unregistered firearm.

The man was also charged with resisting a police officer. Both were refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court on Saturday.
