Loaded gun found near children's playground by police investigating attempted murder

Two firearms have been found by detectives investigating the alleged attempted murder of a 21-year-old man in Cardiff.

Officers were called to Harris Avenue, Rumney, at 3:25pm on April 13 following reports of a serious assault.

The injured person, from Tremorfa, underwent surgery at University Hospital of Wales following the alleged attack but was later discharged.

Officers said they located the weapons, one of which was loaded, near a playground in Harrowby Street, Butetown, over five miles away from where the alleged assault took place.

Detective Chief Inspector Mark O’Shea of South Wales Police’s major crime investigations team, said: “Whoever was responsible for placing these weapons near this children’s play area showed a flagrant disregard for the safety of the young people who attend the area.

“They put members of the public in jeopardy and I am appealing for anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area since Monday, April 13, to contact us.”

Kamal Legall, 25, from Fairwater, and Keiron Hassan, 32, from Ely, have both been charged with attempted murder and have been remanded in custody.

Two other men previously arrested in connection with the incident have been released from custody while enquiries continue.

South Wales Police wants to hear from anyone with information concerning the incident and in particular from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious near the Harrowby Street play area after the time of the incident.
