Loaded Bears receivers room battling for roster roles

Chicago was once deemed the place where receivers go to die. But that couldn’t be further from the truth as the Bears head into 2019 with a receivers room loaded with talent.

Guys like Allen Robinson, Taylor Gabriel, Cordarrelle Patterson and Anthony Miller are all virtual locks, but there are several young receivers jockeying for position behind them.

There’s a very real possibility that the Bears will keep seven receivers on the roster, and Javon Wims, Riley Ridley and Marvin Hall are among those fighting for those roster spots.

“We got a lot of guys that can do a lot of different things,” Ridley said, via 670 the Score. “It’s very competitive. Being a young guy, you want to make a mark. I just keep my head down and keep working.”

Wims has garnered attention throughout training camp — and rightfully so. The second-year receiver has shown that he can be a valuable weapon in this offense.

Cornerback Prince Amukamara praised the second-year receiver, even after the two were involved in a fight on Tuesday morning. The two were separated and made peace.

“He looks great out there,” Amukamara said of Wims.

There’s another receiver that’s been quietly impressing during camp.

Marvin Hall, the other Hall. Now, the only Hall, after Emanuel Hall was cut by the Bears on Tuesday.

“He’s really smooth as a route runner,” Nagy said of Marvin Hall. “Obviously fast. He has natural hands. He’s really taken everything that we do with this offense. It hasn’t been too much a challenge for him. Some of the guys, they can hiccup on it a little bit, but he’s done really well.”

All Hall can focus on is his own performance and not worry about what he can’t control.

“I do what Marvin Hall can do,” Hall said. “If it’s good enough, it’s good enough. If it’s not, we’re back to the drawing board.”
