Load management is spoiling a potential NBA Finals preview

The Milwaukee Bucks will visit the Staples Center on Wednesday night for a nationally televised game against the Los Angeles Clippers – but what was billed as a must-watch matchup between the two title contenders just got a lot less interesting as the Clippers announced that Kawhi Leonard will miss the game due to load management.

Wednesday’s game against the Bucks is the first in a back-to-back for the Clippers, who last played on Sunday at home. The Clippers have already rested Leonard once this season, on October 30th against the Jazz, which was also the first game of a back-to-back, and also happened to be a nationally televised game on ESPN.

It’s no surprise that the Clippers are being careful with Leonard, and the Raptors proved last season that prioritizing Leonard’s health can yield major dividends in the postseason – but NBA fans are understandably bummed.
