LNER launches unique Tyne Bridge face mask design for rail passengers

A rail operator has created a unique Tyne Bridge face mask to keep people safe during the coronavirus pandemic.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) has revealed three face mask designs for customers including one that is inspired by Newcastle's iconic Tyne Bridge.

The week it was confirmed that face coverings will become mandatory in shops across England by the end of the month.

The reusable face masks are celebrating some of the most popular destinations along the East Coast Mainline – Edinburgh, London and Newcastle.

The distinctive designs will be available for customers to purchase online for use when travelling on train services, where face coverings are now mandatory in England and Scotland.

Customers can choose between a uniquely-designed thistle, Tyne Bridge or London Eye face mask, with proceeds going to the charity Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).

The masks have been manufactured and distributed locally as LNER vows to support communities and businesses on the East Coast.

LNER Communications Director, Kate McFerran, said: "We know how passionate our customers and colleagues are about the great towns and cities of the LNER route.

"The Tyne Bridge is one of the most iconic bridges on our route and our trains pass across it daily, the hand-illustrated design perfectly represents how LNER stands alongside the community in Newcastle.

"Whilst we all adjust to these new ways of going about our daily lives, including using our services, we wanted to ensure that customers and colleagues could travel safely and in style.

"Of course, we’re also interested to see if there’s any regional rivalry when it comes to finding out which is the most popular design."
