LNER cancels trains and amends services as it introduces coronavirus timetable

LNER will introduce a reduced weekday service from Monday with a new coronavirus timetable.

The operator has cancelled trains and amended services on the East Coast Mainline running from London to Scotland, via Durham, Darlington and Newcastle.

LNER says the move is due to lower customer demand and a drop in available staff, following Government advice against non-essential travel during the coronavirus pandemic.

LNER says: “Our special, temporary timetable changes will see LNER continue to run services throughout the day, including at peak times, serving our core routes and key interchange stations, enabling customers to connect between intercity and local services run by other operators.

“Our new, temporary weekday timetable will run from Monday March 23. Weekend services will be confirmed in the coming days. This is a fast-moving situation, so there will likely be further changes following this, and we will keep our colleagues and customers informed.

LNER has already closed its first class lounges and removed on-board catering. Passengers who need to eat are encouraged to bring their own food.
