Lloyds and Halifax customers unable to access online banking accounts as both websites and apps are down

Thousands of frustrated Lloyds and Halifax customers are unable to access their online banking accounts as both of the bank's websites and apps are down.

Many are having difficulty logging into the Lloyds website and app, with some being told the 'server connection has failed' or saying the 'website can't be reached'.

Halifax customers trying to access their online banking accounts on its mobile app are receiving a message saying "app launch failed" or "Sorry, we're experiencing technical problems. Please try again later".

Those trying to access the Halifax website are seeing a message that says: "This site can't be reached. The webpage might be temporarily down or it may have moved".

Down Detector, an outage monitor, has registered a surge of customers with Lloyds and Halifax - which is a subsidiary of Lloyds Banking Group - reporting they are unable to access their online banking accounts.

The website claims that more than 5,000 reports have been made in the past 24 hours.

Both banks have apologised for the technical problem.

A message posted on both Halifax and Lloyds' Twitter pages reads: "We know some of you are having issues with logging into internet banking and Mobile App.

"We're sorry for this. We're working to have it back to normal soon."
