Llandudno hotel that went bust this month has been put up for sale

A Llandudno seafront hotel that went bust earlier this month has gone up for sale.

Esplanade had been run by Safehands Holidays Limited who bought the hotel in 2014 and converted the building into a holiday venue for people with disabilities and their carers.

But it closed two weeks ago after Safehands put the company into voluntary liquidation after they failed to find a buyer.

Now commercial agent Avison Young has placed the 40 bedroom hotel up for sale.

It is on an "offers invited" basis with no guide price. The site had been on sale for £1.2 back in 2014.

The hotel was created from five Victorian townhouses by Jack Payne back in the 1920s – and ran by his family until its sale in 2014.

Guests have included Labour Prime Minister Harold Wilson and the Duke of Kent.

In recent years it has been especially adapted for wheelchair users with accessible rooms with public areas specially adapted for the comfort of disabled, ill and elderly guests.

It was rated as a "very good" hotel on Trip Advisor with a four out of five overall rating.

Philip Gibson, associate with Avison Young, said: "The hotel was formed from five original town houses that comprise the northern section of a fine Victorian terrace between Mostyn Crescent and Trevor Street.

"The Grade II listed hotel underwent extensive refurbishment in 2015 which included a new lift and ramped access to the front and side."

A number of Llandudno hotels have run into difficulties in recent weeks, with the Ambassador Hotel falling into the hands of liquidators.

The well known hotel, which sits on St George's Place, continues to trade under liquidators’ control.

Also the Llandudno Bay Hotel, Queens Hotel and the Belmont are all currently being run by administrators from Duff & Phelps.

They are owned by Gavin Woodhouse's company Northern Powerhouse Developments.

All the hotels continue to trade. Buyers are being sought for the three sites.
