Llandudno hotel reports 300% hike in June bookings as staycations boom

A Llandudno hotel is reporting a 300% hike in bookings for June - when compared to the same month in 2019.

Tourism has been badly impacted by lockdowns and other restrictions - with the resort of Llandudno on the front line.

But the sector was given the green light to start to reopen last weekend with self contained accommodation allowed to open - although UK and Welsh Government travel rules currently mean only people in Wales can visit.

Over the coming weeks further parts of the sector will gradually reopen with outdoor hospitality towards the end of April and indoor hospitality potentially three weeks later.

This has seen a surge in booking for holidays with Somerset Hotel in Llandudno, with a 305 per cent increase for June, compared to the pre-pandemic figure.

It is lower than the UK average increase for owner Daish's 11 hotels (at 495 per cent) perhaps reflecting the clearer roadmap in England but still bodes well for the sector and the town.

Paul Harper, sales and marketing Director at Daish’s Holidays, said: “Spring and summer bookings have rapidly increased since January and it is evident that people feel reassured holidays on home soil can go ahead this year.”

Autumn and winter bookings are also on the rise compared to 2019, with October to December breaks receiving an average 418 per cent increase during this same period in March.

Paul added: “It is reassuring to see that the influx of bookings are not just being made for summer, but we are also benefitting from a similar surge for the winter months. This will allow the business to start financially recovering from our temporary closures and lay the foundations for future growth in 2022.

“Our customers are now forward planning their holidays rather than making last-minute bookings, which was favourable before the pandemic. It would seem that the government roadmap has increased consumer confidence in UK travel.

“We’re proud that so many holidaymakers are entrusting us to deliver a memorable and enjoyable stay after what has been an incredibly difficult and turbulent year.”

The British-based holiday operator will re-open its portfolio of hotels on Monday, May 17.
