LK Bennett Cribbs Causeway could be saved after Chinese company battles to take over chain

Bristol’s last remaining LK Bennett store could be saved from closure after a Chinese supplier to the brand announced plans to buy the chain out of administration.

The Cribbs Causeway branch could be saved if the retailer is successfully bought out.

LK Bennett closed its shop in Cabot Circus after collapsing earlier this month.

Byland UK is a newly incorporated company that has been formed in a bid to take over the high street fashion chain, according to Sky News.

LK Bennett's former boss Darren Topp, and its ex-finance director, Andrew Ellis, have reportedly been approached about assisting with Byland’s offer.

Administrators EY have been looking for a buyer for LK Bennett and are expected to announce a deal in the coming days.

The chain employed around 500 people in the UK before it went into administration.

It is now hoped that jobs could be saved if LK Bennett is bought up. Some 55 jobs have already been axed from the retailer’s HQ.

LK Bennett also trades out of 37 concessions around the UK, including in Harvey Nichols in Bristol.

The high street chain, which was once favoured by Kate Middleton, entered into administration after falling into financial difficulties.

Administrators said the business had been impacted by rising rents and “tough trading conditions”.

LK Bennett was founded by Linda Bennett in 1990.

Ms Bennett told staff in an email this month that she had “fought as hard as she can”.

She wrote: "I know that these are difficult and unstable times, and we are doing everything we can to identify the best way forward."
