LJ Scott signed by the Baltimore Ravens as UDFA

LJ Scott had always been a question mark for the NFL Draft. Early in his career, he seemed like a lock for a mid-round selection. Unfortunately, Scott was not drafted during last weekend’s NFL Draft, but he was signed soon after by the Baltimore Ravens, joining a very crowded Baltimore Ravens backfield.

After Scott’s first season with MSU, he looked like he could be a huge target for NFL teams. However, LJ Scott never seemed to be able to outpace his performance in year one. He even admits that was the case, saying at his pro day in March:

“I hit a few walls obviously, but it’s just about how you bounce back from that adversity.”

Despite never eclipsing 1,000 yards in a season in his time at MSU, LJ Scott still managed to end as the 9th leading rusher in school history.

The Ravens have a very busy backfield right now that Scott will need to compete for a job with. Here is every running back for the Ravens:

  • Gus Edwards
  • Mark Ingram
  • Kenneth Dixon
  • Justice Hill
  • De’Lance Turner
  • Tyler Ervin

Gus Edwards and Mark Ingram are the power backs in that group who Scott will be backing up. I think that Scott could surprise people. Dealing with injuries most of his career, I think that if he comes into camp fully healthy, he could be someone who surprises everyone as a starting player in the NFL.
