LJ Scott released by Cleveland Browns, mulling football future

LJ Scott’s short-lived professional football has apparently come to and end . . . maybe.

Scott was released by the Cleveland Browns on Thursday after signing with the team on Monday. According to multiple reports Scott was absent from practice Wednesday and Dana Balash, the Sports Director of Youngstown’s WFMJ TV reported on Twitter that Scott was retiring from football.

Scott’s release from the Brown’s became official Thursday morning when the team announced its signing of running back D’Ernest Johnson and had released Scott in a corresponding move.

Scott battled injuries through his senior season in East Lansing, gathering up career lows in games (5), attempts (79), yards (264), yards per attempt (3.3) and touchdowns (zero). After deciding to eschew the pursuit of an additional year of eligibility, Scott declared for the NFL draft where he wasn’t selected among the 254 players selected.

Expected to be a priority un-drafted free agent, Scott instead accepted a mini camp tryout with the Baltimore Ravens, with the team declining to sign him after the two-day camp. Scott then signed with Cleveland before being released just days later.

While the reports of Scott’s retirement are unconfirmed, there are multiple reports that he is mulling over his football future.
