Lizzy Yarnold has baby girl - and unleashes her childish side

Britain's most successful Winter Olympian Lizzy Yarnold has given birth to a baby girl.

Yarnold, 30, and husband James Roche announced the arrival on Twitter , thanking the NHS staff who had delivered her.

They have not revealed their daughter’s name, calling her only H in the post.

She tweeted: "A few weeks ago James and I were joined by our little baby girl H. Now we get to be big kids legitimately!!

"It's been a crazy but wonderful couple of weeks. We heart our new jobs as parents! I certainly heart James even more. A big thank you to all the nhs staff who helped us along."

Yarnold won gold in the skeleton race at Pyeongchang last year, having won the same event in Sochi in 2014.

She married James in 2016. The engineer for McLaren Applied Technologies helped design her winning sled.

When she became pregnant Lizzy joked she would have to take up luge instead for a while. Luge competitors slide on their backs rather than on their stomachs like in the skeleton. And the pair prepared for their little one's arrival by taking a baby first aid course.

Sports stars congratulated Yarnold last night.

They included Denise Lewis, 46, who Yarnold has credited with inspiring her to take up sport after watching her win the heptathlon gold at the 2000 Sydney Olympics.
