Lizzo praised for body confidence as she performs in stunning sparkly body suit

Lizzo performed the first of her sold-out shows at the O2 Arena last night, with the concert having been praised by fans and even featuring a shout-out to BBC Radio 6.

The singer, 34, has been performing at venues in Europe since last month as part of the Special Tour, which brought her to London yesterday for the first of two shows there.

She took to the stage to perform hits like About Damn Time and Juice, donning outfits such as a sparkly bodysuit understood to be a from her shapewear brand Yitty.

Although there were transport issues, amid strikes on the London Underground, fans have taken to social media to share their excitement over the concert last night.

One person tweeted: "Lizzo was absolutely incredible". Another said: "The most incredible experience and vibe". A third wrote: "Just wow! Best show I have seen ever".

Another person commented: "What a masterclass in women's empowerment, self love and advocacy. Exactly what this world needs. And she shows it rather than tells it."

"She oozes positivity and fun. Thank you for an amazing time," tweeted another attendee. Whilst one person said after the concert: "Loved Lizzo at the O2 tonight".

She gave a special shout-out to Lauren Laverne, 44, during the concert. She's understood to have played Lizzo's music on BBC Radio 6 prior to her mainstream success.

Lizzo - whose real name is Melissa Jefferson - performed her first session for the radio station in 2013 and seemed to reference her early career at last night's concert.

A clip from the gig shows Lizzo saying: "[Lauren] played my record on Radio 6 and just like that I was flying to England every other weekend. Y'all welcomed me with open arms."

The performer - who is set to return to the O2 Arena tonight - continued: "We went from getting f***** up at the Travelodge to selling out the O2 two nights in a row!"

Lauren reacted on Twitter, saying she was "humbled and delighted" over it. And she added: "It has been a joy to watch such a fantastic artist fly - from the very beginning".

Lizzo embarked on the European leg of her latest tour last month and has already performed at venues in cities such as Copenhagen, Berlin, Paris, Manchester and Dublin.
