Lizzo has taken time out of her touring schedule in Australia to help those affected by the deadly wildfires by volunteering at a local food bank.
On Wednesday, the rapper volunteered at Foodbank Victoria, a non-profit organisation that provides food relief for Australian citizens.
“We had the one and only Lizzo helping us sort and pack hampers in the warehouse today,” the organisation wrote on its Facebook page. “If you’d like to join Lizzo in supporting the bushfire crisis, you can click the link below to donate.”
The food bank included a photo of the rapper, dressed in a fluorescent vest and gloves, posing with another volunteer.
“That is awesome,” one person commented in response.
Another said: “Fantastic. Thank you Lizzo!”
Earlier this week, the Truth Hurts singer discussed the wildfires in Australia on her Instagram Stories, calling the fires a “global crisis”.
“Being over here in Australia has really given me a real-time view into what’s happening with these devastating fires. And for all of my followers who are mostly American I just want to say that this is a global crisis,” the 31-year-old said. “I don’t want to politicise anything, this isn't a political issue at this point, this is a human issue.
“The CO2 emissions that are being created by this fire are staggering and it affects the world."
The rapper also pointed out that “we’re all connected on this planet and this is the Earth”.
“This is all of our problem, this is our neighbourhood. We share this,” Lizzo continued, before adding that even those who don’t have money to donate can spread “caring and awareness” about the issue.
Lizzo is not the only celebrity who has used her platform to raise awareness of the wildfires.
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have donated $500,000 to the cause, while Pink announced earlier this week that she would be “pledging a donation of $500,000 directly to the local fire services that are battling so hard on the front lines.''
Other celebrities who have made donations include Kylie Jenner, Kylie Minogue, Chris Hemsworth, Elton John, and Ellen DeGeneres.
