You know when you post shit online and never think anything will come of it? Well, one Aussie TikToker who shared a video about a not-so-glowing interaction she had with pop superstar Lizzo is proof that you never know who will come across your content.
Australian TV producer and That’s Showbiz Baby podcast host Alexandria Funnell has made a name for herself by sharing stories about working in the Australian media industry. Over more than 13 years, she’s been in different positions behind the scenes on various Aussie television shows. In one TikTok shared this week, Alexandria recounted a story about an awkward encounter she had with the rapper when she worked on The Project as a social media producer in 2020.

“I’ve had a lot of awkward experiences with celebrities, but this is by far, without a doubt, my top five awkward and embarrassing celebrity encounters,” Alexandria said in the TikTok.
Alexandria explained that it was her job to take a photo of each of the guests going on the panel to upload to social media. In 2020, Lizzo was at the height of her career, and when it was announced that she would be appearing on the show, Alexandria says she was excited.
According to Alexandria, Lizzo was “pleasant”, but the vibes were a bit frosty. After snapping the pics, Lizzo asked to see them, but the camera began glitching out, allegedly prompting Lizzo to storm off without reviewing the pics.
“It just went on for so long to the point that she starts getting impatient. She’s like, ‘Well, is it gonna work or not?’ And I was like, I don’t know. Like, I think it will, yeah,” Alexandria claimed on TikTok.
“I’m smacking the camera, and she goes, ‘Well, is it a good photo or not? Like, I just need to know, is it a good photo or not?’ And I’m like, ‘Oh yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s a good photo’, not knowing at all if it’s a good photo.
“By this point, because it’s just so awkward and the photo never loaded. So, eventually she just cracked it and stormed off.”

After posting her storytime, the video racked up around 13.8K views. To make things spicier, apparently, Lizzo was one of them and commented on the video.
“So I was ‘pleasant’ but you were ‘terrified’… this doesn’t even sound like me,” Lizzo commented from her private TikTok.
“I honestly would never ‘demand’ to see a photo or ‘storm off’ from a working person just doing their job. This projected depiction of me is really disappointing.”

In a chat with PEDESTRIAN.TV, Alexandria admits that she thought she was being trolled by a fan account when she saw the comment pop up.
“I seriously didn’t think it was real. I thought this fake fan was doing a really good job of pretending to be Lizzo,” she said, noting that the account had more than 100K followers. However, when she realised it was an account actually used by Lizzo to interact with her fans, Alexandria was shocked.
“At first, I shat myself when I realised Lizzo had seen it,” she said with a laugh.
“But then I went from a freak out to ‘well no, Lizzo, don’t gaslight me’.”

“It’s not like she clapped back with her version of events. She clearly has no recollection of it,” Alexandria continued.
“She’s just saying it doesn’t sound like her. So you don’t even remember what happened, but you’re saying it doesn’t sound like me, whereas I remember exactly what happened, because it was a big day for me. I’ll never forget what happened. It was a huge, uncomfortable, awkward, cringeworthy encounter, and Lizzo was annoyed at me.”
After seeing Lizzo’s response and receiving some comments from Lizzo fans, the podcast host responded to Lizzo’s comment with some more context about the interaction.
She also clarified that she never posted the “unflattering” picture of Lizzo on the Instagram grid.
“I didn’t post the photo to the Instagram grid. I put it on stories, and then I took more flattering, quite beautiful photos of her at the desk, which was what I posted on the grid,” she confirmed to P.TV.
“If anybody’s wondering, like, did I go ahead and post this photo that was less than flattering and wasn’t fully approved on the grid? No, I just put it on stories to be like, ‘Lizzo is here’, and then I made sure to get really flattering, lovely photos of her mid-conversation on the desk, and they’re the photos I put on our grid.”

Juicy, right?!
