Lizzo has revealed she is taking a break from Twitter because there are “too many trolls”.

On Monday, the “Good as Hell” singer tweeted: “Yeah I can’t do this Twitter s*** no more... too many trolls."

The 31-year-old singer did not reveal when she would return, but added: "I'll be back when I feel like it".

Lizzo's tweet has been liked more than 147,000 times and garnered 4,100 retweets, with fans urging the singer to remain on the platform.

"Please know for every troll, there are so many genuine fans here to show love and support," replied one person. "We've got your back QUEEN! Hope you come back to us soon."

Prior to leaving the platform, Lizzo had been tweeting about the Australia wildfires, urging followers to donate to firefighters.

In a subsequent tweet, the singer wrote: "I never feel like I'm helping enough".

Lizzo has previously spoken about the body-shaming comments she receives on Twitter and read one out in a recent appearance on the Jimmy Kimmel Show.

The tweet read, “Bus passes and Happy Meals. Two things that I imagine #Lizzo has seen a lot ”

But the singer took the tweet in stride, laughing at it before responding: “Yeah, I’m a big b****, and I ride a bus. A tour bus, motherf***er. Where’s yours?”

Meanwhile, in December, Lizzo was told by one Twitter follower that she was fuelling the obesity epidemic in America.

The user posted a picture of the singer on stage with the caption: “Lizzo popular is because there is an obesity epidemic in America. [sic]

“Rather than encouraging people to do better, we are simply lying to them and telling them that they are just fine the way they are. Unfortunately, many of these people are dying from diabetes and heart disease.”

Lizzo retweeted them and wote: “I’m popular because I write good songs and I’m talented and perform high energy hour and a half shows filled with love. The only person who needs to do better is you."
