Lizzo impresses on Met Gala red carpet with impromptu flute performance

Lizzo shone on the Met Gala red carpet for more reasons than her stunning outfit on Monday night.

The eccentric singer, 34, showcased one of her many talents as she whipped out her flute and performed an impromptu tune for onlookers.

She arrived on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala wearing a hand-embroidered gold and black coat which was designed by Thom Browne.

She completed the look with a gold choker necklace while her nails were impeccably done - and incredibly long.

And she explained to the hosts how she felt "like a piece of art" in her extravagant outfit for the fashion event of the year..

"It took 22,000 hours to make this coat," she told Vogue on the event's red carpet. "I'm just so happy to be in it I feel like a piece of art."

When discussing her nails, she joked: "I'm going to be opening everybody's wine tonight... they're amazing. I can wipe my a** with these believe it or not.

"I can do everything with these things, hopefully I can play the flute."

She later proved she could do just that with an impressive performance for the cameras.

Lizzo has been a flutist since childhood and she showed off her skills as she climbed the stairs at the museum.

She shared a short clip of her performance to her 12.2 million followers on Instagram and commented: "Y’all I was gonna play Debussy but I got nervous."

Not doing so didn't appear to disappoint her fans though who flocked to the comments section to praise the star.

One user wrote: "Favorite look of the night, love!"

Another penned: "you amaze me everyday- what CANT she do?"

And a third said: "i knew i was a band kid for a reason."

Elsewhere on the red carpet for the star-studded event Kim Kardashian stunned onlookers as she wore Marilyn Monroe's iconic dress in which she sang happy birthday to John F Kennedy.

The reality TV star, 41, completed the look by bleaching her hair blonde as she left it until last minute to enter the event.

She did so alongside boyfriend Pete Davidson, 28, who looked stylish in a fitted black suit.

Kim's sister Khloe Kardashian dressed in a very similar outfit to the SKIMS founder, with the 37-year-old choosing a black throw instead of Kim's choice of white.
