Lizzie Cundy says Coleen Rooney and Becky Vardy had video call to try to solve row

Lizzie Cundy appeared on This Morning on Thursday and spoke to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby about the WAGatha Christie scandal.

Last year, Lizzie's friend Coleen Rooney accused fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy of leaking stories about her to the press.

Rebekah, who was heavily pregnant at the time, is now suing Coleen for defamation as she firmly denies it was her who leaked any stories.

Holly asked why the ladies could not solve their issues privately, and instead Coleen took to Instagram to share her now-infamous story detailing her detective work and finishing with the claim "it was Rebekah Vardy's account".

Lizzie said neither of the women wanted the case to go to the High Court, and she called the debacle "really sad" (ITV)

Lizzie revealed the duo did actually try to solve things out of court and they spoke to each other via a video call, but neither of them would give in.

"They have tried, there was a video call where they sat with lawyers trying to sort this, but sadly neither was going to back down or say sorry," she explained.

"It's sad it's come to this, they were friends," she added.

Phillip questioned why the women would want their "dirty laundry" aired in front of everyone in the court.

"It's very sad, this has been dragging on for nearly a year now, and she was hoping that it could get solved without having to go to the high court," replied Lizzie.

"This will cost over millions possibly in legal fees, the stress as Judge Rinder knows is very scary, not a nice place to be.

"It's going to be played out in every newspaper, talked about on every TV show and radio show, it's not what Coleen wanted and it's not what Becky wants at the end of the day."

Judge Rob Rinder also appeared via video call and gave his expert legal opinion about the case, remarking that the legal fees would be astronomical and he had been told Becky is suing for £1million.

He lamented defamation cases were "the play thing of the rich" and noted that small businesses are libeled on social media all the time and do not have the funds to fight their cause in court, and "that is a real tragedy".

He explained Becky will have to prove in court to a judge and not a jury that her reputation has been damaged and that she "suffered serious harm".

The barrister added that the fact Coleen said it was "Rebekah Vardy's account" may present a legal loophole as she did not technically name Becky as the leaker, she only said that the only account who could view those Instagram stories was Becky's.
