Liz Truss would leave scared families to watch as household budgets haemorrhage money

Refusing to keep down energy bills and ignorantly dismissing a prize freeze as a “sticking plaster”, likely next Prime Minister Liz Truss would leave frightened families to watch as their household budgets haemorrhage money.

The Truss promising huge tax handouts for the country’s very wealthiest and most profitable corporations proves she is indifferent to the suffering of the vast majority.

With the value of real wages plummeting at the worst rate on record, millions of people will face misery unless the Conservative Government U-turns and does what’s needed.

Labour leader Keir Starmer’s energy bill freeze draws a popular, deep red line showing Truss is on the wrong side of the argument.

While she’s a prisoner of the 0.2% who are members of a tiny Tory Party, Starmer and Labour wisely speak to the 99.8%.

Lest we forget

Torture, rape and murder war crimes in Ukraine by Russian military forces will forever be a stain that damns Vladimir Putin throughout history.

Grim details of camps and inhumane treatment of civilians and captured troops by the brutal occupiers are stomach-churning and must never go unpunished.

Bringing to justice Putin, his commanders and the thugs on the ground will never be easy and might prove impossible.

But the guilty must never be allowed to escape. Hunting them down will be a noble international mission.

Because becoming war weary, forgetting the unprovoked invasion and terrors unleashed in Ukraine by its neighbour, is exactly what Putin wants so he can permanently annexe territory.

Daring Darius

The death of singer and actor Darius Campbell Danesh aged just 41 is a tragedy.

Grabbing fame on talent shows, the engaging Scot who came third on Pop Idol in 2002 behind Will Young and Gareth Gates proved you didn’t need to be first to be a winner.
