Liz Truss tells voters 'move on' from Partygate as Boris Johnson 'delivered Brexit'

Out-of-touch Liz Truss today urged voters to “move on” from Partygate because Boris Johnson “has delivered Brexit ”.

The Foreign Secretary tried to draw a line under the mounting fury about boozy No10 bashes - and instead pointed to the Prime Minister successfully stripping the UK out of the EU.

Ms Truss, who campaigned for Remain in the 2016 referendum, admitted “real mistakes” were made when parties were held during lockdown at Downing Street.

“We are very clear that there were real mistakes made,” she said after talks with European Commission vice-president Maros Sefocvic at Chevening, Kent.

“But I do think that we need to look at the overall position we’re in as a country, the fact that he has delivered Brexit, that we are recovering from Covid...He has apologised.

“I think we now need to move on and talk about how we are going to sort out issues.”

Critics blasted the Cabinet Minister’s desperate attempt to divert attention by trying to reignite the Brexit battles.

Lib Dem deputy leader Daisy Cooper said: “ Liz Truss ‘ comments show just how out of touch this Tory Government truly is.

“If she wants things to move on, she should submit her letter of no confidence and call on Boris Johnson to resign.”

Ms Truss is one of the frontrunners to succeed the PM in a Conservative leadership contest.

Potential rivals include Chancellor Rishi Sunak, Health Secretary Sajid Javid and former Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt.
