Liz Truss' Leeds university dad who 'couldn't be further from her politics'

New Prime Minister Liz Truss has openly talked about her formative years spent as a schoolgirl in Roundhay in Leeds - and her dad is still a key figure in the city.

John Truss, Liz' father, is a maths professor at the University of Leeds, but he allegedly doesn't share the same politics as his Tory daughter.

Prime Minister Truss has previously said she grew up in a "very left-wing household" and her parents participated in marches against the Conservative government in the 1980s. They were also members of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.

Liz Truss has overseen massive tax cuts for the wealthiest people in society as part of her last 'mini budget'. Following this, the pound plummeted in value against the dollar causing the Bank of England to raise interest rates.

But Liz has spoken of her desire to cut taxes for the wealthy, having defended the decision to reduce the top rate of tax from 45% to 40% before reversing the decision in an embarrassing u-turn after even US president Joe Biden spoke openly against her and Kwasi Kwarteng's 'trickle down economics'.

According to The Express, the University of Leeds has previously sent out an email to its staff not to speak to journalists and to be quiet about Mr Truss.

Chancellors had reportedly sent out an email warning staff to ignore journalists and keep quiet about Mr Truss, 75.

According to The Express, back in July, a university source had said,: “John is distraught at the policies his daughter is advocating in her bid to become PM.”

She also spoke in the past about being called a "tw*t" by one of her dad's colleagues.

In 2009, Ms Truss told the Guardian: "I was brought up in a very left-wing household.

"My mum was in the CND (campaign for nuclear disarmament) and my dad's a university maths lecturer. One of his colleagues sent an email when he found out [I was a Tory] saying: 'I see your daughter's become a tw*t'.'"

The university and representatives for Ms Truss were approached for comment by The Express.
