Liz Truss was laughed at as she issued an update on the next general election.
The Prime Minister was grilled by Sir Keir Starmer for the first time since she announced her controversial budget. The mini budget sent the markets and the pound into freefall and triggered an emergency intervention from the Bank of England.
The Labour leader demanded the Conservatives reverse the "kamikaze budget" as he accused the Tories of going on a "borrowing spree". Ms Truss was jeered by the Labour benches as she tried to claim the government had "taken decisive action" to prevent energy bills from rising to £6,000.

The final question of today's session came from Labour MP Matt Western, who quizzed Ms Truss on whether she would listen to public polls and call for an immediate general election. He said: "After five weeks of a crisis conceived in Downing Street, the crashing pensions, interest rates rising, mortgage market turmoil and complete financial chaos, the country has been left wanting a divorce.
"In two recent polls, 60% of this country wants an immediate general election. The Prime Minister claims she is in listening mode. Will she give way to the public?" However, Ms Truss shot down the idea of a general election in the near future.
Ms Truss responded: "Mr Speaker, I think the last thing we need is a general election." Ms Truss became Prime Minister when she won the Tory leadership race with 81,326 votes.
Ms Truss' comment was met with rapturous laughter from the Labour benches as the speaker brought Wednesday's PMQs to a close.
Viewers following PMQs on Twitter claimed the PM is dodging a general election.
Ruth said: "The last thing the country needs is a general election” says Liz Truss at #PMQs - translated into English - “the last thing the Tory party needs is a general election in which we would be smashed”"
Ashley added: "The last thing we need is a general election' is what someone says when they want to retain power and don't believe in the democratic process."
Marc commented: "Starmer absolutely thrashed Truss at #PMQs - Truss’ government is incompetent, has no mandate and she needs to call a general election ASAP."
